Reviving Connaught

In the 50s, Connaught is a name that hardcore racing fans associate with Formula Two and One entries that had everything to succeed. Unfortunately, its founder Rodney Clarke came up short when he had to step on the gas. Years later, he had to close down the whole thing while the name ended up in relative obscurity. However, former Jaguar engineers Tim Bishop and Tony Martindale had better ideas. That’s because they revived the Connaught name by establishing the Connaught Motor Company.

Bishop and Martindale didn’t waste any time because they went straight to work by launching their first model called Connaught Type-D. Basically, it’s a coupe with a 2.1-liter V10 engine while having a configuration that is similar to the Honda hybrid. Since the Connaught Type-D is a green vehicle, it gives you three options when driving: sport mode, economy mode, and normal mode. When it comes to performance, the Connaught Type-D provides a torque of 144 lbs.-ft and horsepower that can reach 162 hp.

When it comes to acceleration, the Connaught Type-D can go from 0-60 mph in just under 6.5 seconds. For a green car, its top speed is quite high because it can go as fast as 140 mph. You may think that the Connaught Type-D is gas-guzzler with all the features that it has. The truth is, its 42 MPG rating and 600-mile driving range puts it in a class of its own. Honestly, very few sports cars can compete with those kinds of numbers. Today, the company is selling the Connaught Type-D at around 26,000 USD per piece.
